Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is a spectacular trekking around Gosaikunda lake and Helambu Valley in Nepal. The trek covers a distance of 80 km in Langtang National Park that extends from Syabrubesi to Sundarijal, Kathmandu. The trek is famous for its natural and cultural beauty. The trek is ideal for family with Children, seniors and adults. One of the most popular short trek routes in Nepal, Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is easily accessible from Kathmandu, and also a good trek to get freedom from your daily life.

The Gosaikunda Helambu Tea House Trek begins from Dhunche/Syabrubesi and taking you through lush forests, quaint villages and lakes. Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu -Dhunche (1960m, 6 hours)

Drive to Dhunche (1960m) by bus takes 6 hours, a scenic drive through Nepalese country sides pass through villages, rivers with an amazing view of Himalayan peaks like Lantang and Ganesh Himal. Overnight at tea house lodge.

Day 02: Trek to Thulo Syabru Village (2200m, 5/6 hours)

Trek to Thulo Syabru (2200m), the biggest ethnic Tamang village in the region. We can see the stone topped local houses with Buddhist holy flags, excellant views of Langtang Lirung and Tibetan mountain range. It takes 5 hours walk.

Day 03: Sybru Village to Sing Gompa (3210m)

Passing Schools and gompas the trail ascent through the forest of hemlock and oak until trail Dursagang (2660m). Then the trail gradually ascent through forest Sing Gompa. Sing Gompa is popular for Yak cheese factory and Buddhist monastery.

Day 04: Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda (4380m)

The trail climbs gradually up to Lauirbina Yak (3920m). From Lauirbina Yak, you can see panoramic mountain views of Nepal and Tibet Himalayan range. Then continue trek up to a small temple with a statue of Sakyamuni and further climbing you can see good views of Saraswati kunda and Bhairav Kunda and reach to Gosaikund.

Day 05: Gosaikunda to Ghopte (3440m)

The trail leads to the northern side of Gosaikunda Lake and passing three more small lakes; you will reach Laurebina pass (4610m15120ft). The trail descends to Phedi (3740m). We continue trek to Ghopte with following up and down trail.

Day 06: Ghopte to Kutumsang(2621m)

From Ghopte, the trail ascent from and again trail ascent to Tharepati. The trail descends through fir and rhododendron forest observing the beautiful mountain views of Mt. Dorje Lakpa range on its way to Kutumsang (2450m).

Day 07: Kutumsang to Chisopani(2194m)

The trail descends to the delightful hill village of Gul Bhanjyang. And again trail ascent until Thodang Betini and we continue trek down to Pati Bhanjyang (1860m) and exploring a Brahman and Chhetri village. Then the trail proceeds to Chisopani.

Day 08: Chisopani to Kathmandu via Sundarijal.

The route goes forward through the forest of oak and rhododendron, and brings you to Borlang Bhanjyang (2440m). After we trek down to Mulkharka (1800m) from where you can see spectacular view of Kathmandu valley. Descending through the forest to Sundarijal. And we drive back to Kathmandu by car.

Trip Information

The best time to trek the Gosaikunda-Helambu

The best times for the Gosaikunda-Helambu trek are during the post-monsoon autumn and pre-monsoon spring when the weather is stable and the trails are dry at their most beautiful stage.

Even though trekking the Gosaikunda-Helambu in the winter and summer seasons is usually not recommended, it is good to know that with appropriate gear, any sort of adventure is possible in the Langtang region.

Foods and Accommodation

There is a range of accommodations and food options found on the Gosaikunda-Helambu trek, whose quality and price vary widely depending on the specific location and the level of comfort you prefer in the form of tea houses and lodging.

The rooms in the teahouse and lodges along the trekking trail are simple dormitory style, with bunker beds generally comfortable and shared facilities of toilets and bathrooms.

In the lower elevated area, private rooms might be available in some of the lodges, which grant you more privacy but are costlier with bedding and meals that usually include typical Tibetan and Nepali menus such as Dal Bhat, noodles, pasta, bread, pastries, and potatoes.

Trekking Permits for Gosaikunda Helambu

To trek the Gosaikunda Helambu, you will need to have obtained two permits: the TIMs card and the Langtang National Park permits.

The TIMs card is a Trekkers’ Information Management System card that enables tracking the trekkers in need of emergency help and is available at the various checkpoints of TIMs in Pokhara and Kathmandu.

To enter the protected area in Nepal, it is mandatory to possess a national park entry permit. Since the Gosaikunda-Helambu trek also circumambulates within the Langtang National Park area, you will get a Langtang National Park permit.

The permit for the Langtang National Park entry is USD 30 per person, and that of the TIM card is NPR 2,000 for all the foreigners that come, and NPR 1,000 for the citizens of the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) nationals.
